Dee Wright Observatory was built back in Depression as part of the New Deal. It provided jobs at a time when jobs were scarce. It’s built out of the volcanic rock that was formed 10,000 years ago when X volcano erupted. It’s worth a ride or drive to see the vast fields of lava that seem to go forever. There are short hikes to take through the lava fields with stops at points of interest. If you’re looking for an unusual way to spend your day, this could be it.
